Yummy Sweet Banana Pops, also known as Godda Appo in Konkani, is a sweet tasting evening snack-time recipe in many Konkani households. High in dietary fiber and iron contents, Godda Appos or Sweet Banana Pops are crispy and crunchy on the outside and soft and chewy inside, making it a fun experience to relish this wonderful snack! For obvious reasons, this easy to prepare snack is a kids’ favorite and equally enjoyed by people of all ages. They are usually prepared on an aebleskiver pan or appam pan. Alternately, the batter can be also be spread on a regular pan and enjoyed as Banana Pancakes!
Sweet Banana Pops (Godda Appo)

- 1. 1 cup Raw Rice, pre-soaked 4 hrs
- 2. 1 cup Jaggery (replace with Brown or Palm Sugar if unavailable)
- 3. 2 big Ripe Bananas
- 4. 1/2 tsp crushed Cardamom
- 5. 1/4 cup fresh Coconut Chunks, chopped to tiny squares (optional)
- 6. A pinch of Salt
- 7. Ghee (clarified butter) or Oil for frying
Instructions
In a blender add rice, jaggery and bananas and grind to a smooth batter (no lumps). Transfer to a bowl.
Mix in crushed cardamom, coconut chunks and salt. The batter should be cohesive and of pouring consistency.
Heat the aebleskiver/ appam pan to medium heat and smear each indent with ghee / oil. (Fill 1/3rd of the indent with ghee / oil if using a cast iron pan).
Drop the batter into each indent, top it off with more ghee / oil and cook covered for 2-3 mins on one side until crisp and golden. Flip and cook the other side for an additional 1 min.
Your delicious Sweet Banana Pops or Godda Appos are ready to serve and enjoy!
Notes
The same batter can be used to make banana pancakes!
To make the recipe Vegan, skip the clarified butter or ghee and use oil instead.
